Pope Francis appeal for Laudato Si’

At Pope Paul School, we remain deeply committed to the teachings of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on care for our common home. Guided by the principles of environmental stewardship, we actively engage in a number of initiatives to care for creation. Our  Good level Modeshift STARS accreditation encourages sustainable commuting options to reduce our carbon footprint, and our JTA group help to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Our curriculum integrates environmental education, fostering a deeper understanding of our responsibility to protect the planet. Through these efforts, we aim to inspire both pupils and the broader community to live out the call to care for God’s creation, promoting sustainability and justice for all.

In 2024  Raylan, Finn B, Aram and Nathan became the Laudato Si Leaders at Pope Paul Primary School  in Potters Bar!

“Pope Francis wrote in his letter, Laudato Si, that we must care for our world and the environment. This is why we decided to become Laudato Si Leaders.

We’ve asked the school community for their ideas about how we can look after our planet in a better way. This year we’ve organised a conker competition to help raise awareness about the natural world around us. We also helped organise a clothes swap, to reduce waste and its impact on the environment. We’ve also had a campaign to help encourage people to pick up litter when they see it.

We’re proud of the impact we’ve had on the school so far this year. We’ve also written to a local garden centre who have donated seeds for our school garden, which we plan to plant in the summer term. All this helps to raise awareness and make a cultural change among the Pope Paul community.

Looking ahead, we know that even small things can make a big difference, and hope that our work here will help people think more about Laudato Si and care for the world around us.”

Now in 2025 we have a new Laudato Si group.

All Saints Catholic Academy Trust (ASCAT)

Formed in 2016, as part of the Diocese of Westminster's Academy Strategy, we provide a collaborative structure of school support and innovation for Catholic schools in South West Hertfordshire. Our vision of an 'Outstanding Education for All' comes from this desire to enable all members of school communities to flourish and succeed and to do all that we can to make our schools places where ambition for all is at the heart of everything that we do.
