The Common Good
Serving ‘The Common Good’
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
(Matthew 25:40)
An essential part of the Catholic faith, the key values of Catholic Social Teaching are found at the core of the Gospel. The key themes of Catholic Social Teaching are:
- Human Dignity
- Community & Participation
- Care for Creation
- Dignity in Work
- Option for the Poor
- Solidarity & Peace
The children, staff, parents and all involved in the community of Pope Paul School are here to serve.
“Christ has no body now on earth but yours; no hands but yours; no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which the compassion of Christ must look out on the world.
Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good.
Yours are the hands with which He is to bless His people.”
St Theresa of Avila
Our mission prayer speaks of using our talents to do our best to build a better world. Through our work for the common good we encourage our children to go out and do their best to make the world a better place.
Our School choir has brought joy and happiness to the elderly residents of Potters Bar.
Our Fairtrade Group has visited local schools to spread the message of justice and dignity of workers.
Our Laudato Si Group has organised harvest collections for the local food bank.
Our House Captains have visited The Passage Homeless Centre to deliver socks for the clients.
Our Reception Class and Year 6 class have visited vulnerable citizens in Potters Bar bringing Easter Cards of hope and songs of joy.
Over the years we as a community have supported many different charities locally and across the world including CAFOD, Cancer research UK, Macmillan Coffee Morning, MND, Isabelle Hospice, Missio, Caritas, Mary’s Meals, The Passage, Catholic Children Society, NSPCC, GOSH and many more.
Our pupil leadership groups have led events to raise money for charities directly linked to the lives of our families. Our Yearly faith themes also link to our fund-raising events. More information is available on the yearly them pages.
We continue to aim to strive to build a better world by ensuring we as a school support those that are most vulnerable in our world.
