Year of Apostles 2024/2025

This year, we celebrate the Year of Apostles, a special time to reflect on our shared mission as Catholics: bringing the light of Jesus to the world around us. Inspired by Jesus’ command in the Gospel of Matthew—“Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20)—we consider how each of us is called to live as apostles in our daily lives.

Our faith calls us to love God and to serve our neighbours, especially those experiencing poverty and injustice. Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, we strive to be Christ’s hands and heart in the world, spreading love, justice, and peace. Through the Rooted in Love programme, children learn how to put Gospel teachings into action—creating a community where everyone is valued, supported, and inspired to live as apostles.

Celebrating the Pope’s Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope

As part of Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope, we are deepening our understanding of what it means to journey in faith. Just as the apostles were sent out to share the Good News, we, too, are pilgrims—walking in hope, trusting in God’s plan, and bringing His love to others. Throughout the year, we will explore the theme of pilgrimage, connecting it to our mission of discipleship and service.

Autumn Term Highlights

One World Week

This year, One World Week was explored through the lens of our mission: ensuring everyone hears the Good News and is treated with dignity. Each class chose a country supported by mission charities such as CAFOD, Caritas, Mary’s Meals, or Fairtrade, highlighting our responsibility to care for others globally. During this special week, representatives from CAFOD, Caritas, and Mary’s Meals visited our school, sharing how they live as apostles by supporting communities impacted by war, natural disasters, and poverty.

Advent Service

The theme of apostleship and mission also continued into our Advent Service. We reflected on the prophets and apostles who came before us, each fulfilling their mission to share God’s message of love and hope. Their example inspires us to embrace our own call to bring Jesus’ light to others, especially during this sacred season of preparation and joy.

Spring Term Highlights

The Way of the Cross: Walking as Apostles and Pilgrims of Hope

During Lent, we will reflect on the Way of the Cross, linking each station to how we are called to be apostles and pilgrims of hope in today’s world. Each reflection will focus on a different way we can bring Christ’s love and hope to others, just as the apostles and early disciples did.

Summer  Term Highlights

The Festival of Hope: Celebrating together as Pilgrims of Hope

In  June our school parliament took part in the Festival of Hope at Westminster Cathedral. They journeyed together and on the way, visited The Passage Homeless Centre, to deliver donations of men’s socks collected by the school during Advent and Lent.

It was a wonderful way to come together to celebrate!
